LINER NOTES (GERMAN)jump to:(Liner Notes (English) | Printed Credits | On Screen Credits (Essen) | On Screen Credits (Bonn)) Unsere Begegnungen standen unter einem guten Stern: "Es ist seltsam: Immer wenn wir bei euch spielen, sind wir in Hochform", sagte mir STUART ADAMSON nach dem zweiten Rockpalast-Konzert von BIG COUNTRY in der Biskuithalle Bonn 1991. Der Auftritt in der Grugahalle Essen - über die Eurovision in ganz Europa zu sehen - war schon Legende: In der 17. RockpalastNacht im März 1986 setzten BIG COUNTRY – zusammen mit BAP und JACKSON BROWNE - den glanzvollen Schlusspunkt der ersten Rockpalast-Serie (bis zum Rockpalast-Comeback und unserer Wiederbegegnung fünf Jahre später). Die beiden Konzerte auf diesen DVDs sind zugleich ein „In Memoriam“ für den unvergessenen, leider viel zu früh verstorbenen STUART ADAMSON. Es sind vor allem seine Lyrics und seine Musik (Partner: Bruce Watson, Gitarre), die den Charakter von BIG COUNTRY ausmachen. Wenn die beiden Gitarren den Sound der „Bagpipes“ nachahmen, werden ihre Wurzeln in der schottischen Tradition sofort hörbar. Als Klangfarbe einer Rockband. „Oh Lord where did the feeling go, Oh Lord I never felt so low" - aus dem Song “Chance" vom Album “The Crossing (1983) – ist ein Beispiel für die Melancholie vieler ADAMSON-Texte. Zugleich war gerade “Chance" live im Konzert immer Anlass für einen heftigen und fröhlichen Austausch mit dem Publikum. Was die Fans in diesen Momenten erlebten, ist auch mir in besonderer Erinnerung: Stuarts Warmherzigkeit und Witz. Die Karriere der Band - erste vollgültige Besetzung: Stuart Adamson, Bruce Watson, Tony Butler, Mark Brzezicki – führte ganz nach oben. Die Songs „Fields Of Fire“ (1983), „In A Big Country“ (1983) und „Wonderland" (1984) stürmten die britischen Top 20 Charts, die Alben ,,The Crossing“ (1983) und „Steeltown“ (1984) erreichten die Positionen drei und eins. Diese Rockpalast-Konzerte enthalten alle Hits von BIG COUNTRY und eine ergreifende Version von „Ships“ – mein Song, wenn ich an Stuart denke.
