This tour started as a small idea that got bigger and bigger. Initially it was an opportunity to celebrate our 40th Anniversary but then suddenly we were recording new material and playing the length and breadth of Britain and Ireland.
Playing live was always what drove The Skids onto try new ideas and sounds. Communicating with the audience as a band was easy because if we were not on the stage playing then we would have been in the audience watching and engaging. The music had an energy and that energy remains the key to the songs and the bands identity.
At the heart of the band I hope is an honesty about who we are and why we are doing this. We wanted the songs to come alive again. On stage it feels like the past has been transported into the now with a punch in the guts. It's raw and emotional and real. It's the only way to do this kind of thing. We don't do the shoe-gazing version of rock'n'roll - it's more heads up and away we go!! Ahoy! Ahoy! Land Sea and Sky.
I’m lucky to share a stage with Bill Simpson, Mike Bailey, Bruce and Jamie Watson. Not only do they have the band in their blood, they're good guys who love playing music, especially live.
Hopefully, this captures a great night that takes nostalgia into the present day with the volley and thunder of a band with songs that still mean something.
