Big Country first hit the headlines in 1983 with an album called The Crossing and a string of hit singles including Fields of Fire, In a Big Country and Chance. BIG COUNTRY    (concluded)
Big Country formed in 1981 when Scotland's premier punk band The Skids broke up. Skids' singer and guitarist Stuart Adamson got together with fellow Scottish guitarist Bruce Watson and they recruited the bass and drums duo of Tony Butler and Mark Brzezicki from an outfit called Rhythm for Hire. The band served its time on the road playing support to the likes of The Jam and U2 before committing anything to record and it was this early experience which laid the foundations for their excellent live shows.
Big Country have toured the world with all their album releases and the latest LP, Peace in Our Time, took them on a major tour behind the 'Iron Curtain' where, given that their records aren't readily available, they were astonished to discover they have a Russian fan club.
This In Concert performance was recorded on the band's triumphant return from the Soviet block at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The show features a selection of Big Country hits and some of the fine songs from their latest LP.
